It's Time to See Yourself as the Corporate Athlete

It’s time to view yourself as the corporate athlete — one who prepares and trains for their next event. One who has personal best goals to achieve, so they can win the day, the week, and the year. This means taking the time the night before to plan your day. Write out what you want to accomplish. Visualize the calls you'll make and how the conversations will go. Set aside time for your mind and your spirit in the morning. Map out your day including exercise, work, and family time. If you come to work at 9:00 AM with a plan from the night before and have already reviewed it again this morning — versus the person who gets to work at 9:00 AM and starts planning their day — who do you think is going to win?

You Never Rise to the Occasion...

...You fall back to your highest level of preparation. Jim Rohn, one of my favorite instructors (notice I didn’t say “motivational speaker” — because as he says, “If I motivate an idiot, now I’ve got a motivated idiot”) says this: “Don’t start the day until the day is already done. Don’t start the week until the week is already done. Don’t start the month until the month is already done.” In other words — plan it first, then do it.

Own Your Morning, Own Your Life

The most important thing is to set time aside for you. Away from the phone. Away from email. This is your moment — especially in the morning — to get your mind right, review your plan, write down your thoughts, and move your body. If you think you don't have time in the morning, then do what all great athletes do: get up earlier. This is the difference between 8th place and standing on the podium. I believe in you — and you do as well. Go get this. Make the best version of yourself for you, your family, and for the greater good of all concerned. You've got this! A great book to pick up on this subject is Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. He walks you through the power of using the early part of your day to set the tone for success. It’s a real game-changer.

Having the Right Self Talk

Believing you deserve greatness is key. I mean, who better than you to earn a million dollars a year? You're a good person. You’d do good things with that money — for yourself, your family, and your community. But here's the catch: your only real competition is you and your procrastination. When you understand this — and believe it — it will set you apart. One of the best books on planning I’ve read is The 12 Week Year. Instead of planning out an entire year (which tricks your mind into thinking you’ve got time), it has you plan out just 12 weeks. That means every day is like a week, and every week is like a month. There’s no time to waste. And the best part? At the end of those 12 weeks, you get that same fresh-start feeling you usually only get in January. But now you’ve got it four times a year — with goals, urgency, and clarity all packed in.
